Monumental Sports & Entertainment announced Thursday its plans for The Vaults, a one-of-a-kind set of luxury suites coming soon to Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, D.C.
As part of a three-year, roughly $800 million transformation plan, Monumental aims to create a best-in-class experience for all fans across the arena from the moment of arrival at Capital One Arena until departure, including expanded entrances to ease flow, wider concourses and vertical transportation to move around more efficiently, and a significant increase in culinary options, restrooms and retail locations.
Capital One Arena’s premium offerings will also be expanded, with a portfolio of five different suite types focused on a modern and hospitality-driven design, along with new small group premium options and transformed clubs and season-ticket programs.
The announcement comes just days after the introduction of legislation supporting the public-private partnership for a full transformation of the arena.
The Vaults are the first of the five brand-new suite types to be unveiled and will be Capital One Arena’s most exclusive seating option, featuring a set of experiential suites set apart from common areas and paired with the best lower-level tickets in the arena. The creation of the Vault Suites marks the landmark first step in Capital One Arena’s transformation process, which will not only offer the pinnacle of premium fan experiences at the modernized arena but will set a new standard for premier hospitality within the DMV region.
“Unveiling The Vaults marks a momentous occasion for our organization, as we take the first step to create a groundbreaking new space that transcends traditional luxury at Capital One Arena,” said Jim Van Stone, Monumental president of business operations and chief commercial officer. “This remarkable project not only redefines the premium fan experience in the D.C. area but will be among the highest echelon of premier seating within the entire sports and entertainment industry.”
Each Vault Suite will be accessed by a private lobby with a dedicated elevator off the main concourse and features seating for up to 20, including lounge-style seating areas with plush furniture and elegant high-top seating at the suite’s private bar. Additional programming consists of an experiential tasting room, private restrooms, and other high-end amenities.
Vault owners and their guests will have access to all events at Capital One Arena, including playoff games, concerts, and special events.
The culinary experience at The Vaults will be exceptional, as each suite will offer an all-inclusive menu with a multi-course meal available for all events plus beer, wine, and cocktails. Guests will also enjoy an exclusive Tasting Room, where they will be greeted with several complimentary offerings throughout the event, from local D.C.-inspired appetizers to specialty desserts crafted by an award-winning pastry chef to fan-favorite last bites.
Designed by global architecture and design firm Gensler, the Vault Suite décor incorporates sophisticated nods to the District’s rich history and culture, including architectural details inspired by iconic landmarks like The Capitol, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial, along with artwork, textures, and décor inspired by the natural elements of the region including cherry blossoms and waterways.
Custom furnishings and finishes reflect the elegance of the city’s evolving style, blending modern luxury with a sense of place unique to the nation’s capital. Construction is slated to begin in summer 2025 and be completed in time for the 2025-26 seasons for the NBA’s Washington Wizards and NHL’s Washington Capitals.
“The Vaults promise an extraordinary hospitality experience, where every detail is curated to delight our guests,” Van Stone said. “From personalized culinary offerings crafted by our executive chef to exceptional service from dedicated attendants, Vault Suite owners and their guests will savor the ultimate level of luxury while enjoying incredible views of the world’s best athletes and performers.”
Monumental will soon begin conversations with existing suite holders and premium owners, with a sales and marketing plan to launch in December.
