President Biden welcomed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win on Wednesday morning, July 21. The team gathered towards the south lawn as they were congratulated on their win.
“We had to beat the virus first and they sacrificed more than any other team that I’ve been around — that includes the players, coaches and their families — to make sure we had our team on the field on Sundays,” said Bruce Arians, Head Coach for Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“This Buccaneer team is a testament to the fact that it’s never too late to come together and do extraordinary things,” Biden said.
The team won the Super Bowl earlier this year in February after an untraditional season during a global pandemic. This all affected the way athletes practiced and played the game.
Tom Brady, quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, spoke at the event and acknowledged the hard work of his fellow teammates and the bond they formed during the season.
“Sports have an amazing way of bringing people together. If you look at us, we’re a little bit different [in] ages. I’m a little older than most of my teammates and we come from a lot of different places across the country, a lot of different schools and have very different backgrounds. But we love each other, we’re committed to one another and when you do that, amazing things happen,” he said.
The team won the Super Bowl February 7, in Tampa at their home stadium.
