The NFL announced Wednesday that Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 3.

Daniels completed 21 of 23 passes (91.3 completion percentage) for 254 yards and two touchdowns in Washington’s Week 3 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He added 39 yards on the ground on 12 attempts and scored one rushing touchdown.

Daniels, who has yet to turn the ball over this season, was the first Washington quarterback to throw for multiple touchdowns and rush for one in a single game since 2021. He orchestrated scoring drives on every possession, excluding kneel-downs, and Washington became the first team since 2000 to score on every drive in two consecutive games.

Daniels’ 91.3 completion percentage was the highest by a rookie in a single game in NFL history and the highest in a single game in franchise history (minimum 20 attempts). He is the first Washington player to earn NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors since RB Adrian Peterson did so in Week 8 of the 2018 season.

Daniels is the first Washington quarterback to earn the honor since Kirk Cousins in Week 3 of the 2017 season. He is the first Washington rookie quarterback to earn the honor since Robert Griffin III did so twice during the 2012 season in Week 1 and Week 11.

Daniels joins Griffin and Gus Frerotte (once in 1994) as the only rookie quarterbacks in franchise history to earn NFC Offensive Player of the Week. He becomes the 12th quarterback in franchise history to secure the honor, along with Griffin, Frerotte, Cousins, Jay Schroeder, Doug Williams, Jeff Rutledge, Mark Rypien, Shane Matthews, Brad Johnson, Todd Collins and Jason Campbell.

Daniels is the first rookie and first quarterback to earn NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors in 2024.

This marks the 42nd time in league history that Washington has secured an NFC Offensive Player of the Week distinction.
