The D.C. Council has passed the Migratory Local Wildlife Protection Act, which requires new buildings to meet certain bird-safe design standards, in an effort to reduce bird collisions with buildings.

The 10th annual Environmental Justice Symposium brought together nearly 300 academics, activists, regulators and artists to discuss the past, present and future of environmental justice, and the Biden-Harris administration's policies, including the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which directed tens of billions of new dollars for environmental justice projects.

Capitol Heights has been using a 26,000-square-foot storage lot for construction vehicles and equipment since the 1970s, but residents have expressed frustration with the lack of transparency and slow response to remove trash cans and other junk from the lot.

Capitol Heights, Maryland, had to swap out 1,500 trash cans from a lot owned by the town, which was being used as a junkyard in violation of county zoning laws, causing a rodent infestation and water damage to a nearby home.
