An emergency mass town hall meeting and conference, “The Crisis and Conspiracy to Destroy Black Washington, D.C.” will take place on Saturday at the Union Temple Baptist Church in Ward 8.

There will be workshops and forums that will take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. before the mass town hall meeting starts at 4 p.m. and is scheduled to end at 8 p.m. The purpose of the meeting and conference is to address issues facing the city’s Black community such as gentrification, overdevelopment, the crisis among Black elected officials including D.C. Council member Trayon White (D-Ward 8), crime and violence, wayward Black youth and the absence of African American men.

The conference is the brainchild of Black Lawyers for Justice and its leader, civil and human rights attorney Malik Shabazz, a D.C. resident and entrepreneur.

Public officials and council members have been subpoenaed to appear at the conference to answer public questioning as to their role in the current crisis. The entire D.C. Council has been invited and/or subpoenaed to the mass meeting along with advisory neighborhood commissioners and community leaders.

In addition to Shabazz, keynote speakers include the Rev. Graylan Hagler; Go-Go Museum founder Ronald Moten; Sinclair Skinner of ILoveBlackPeople.com; Minister Najee Muhammad of Afrodescendant Nation; Imam Akbar Bilal of NBPP/Black Mens Movement and Imam Ali of Masjid Rashidun.

The sponsors are Black Crisis DC, Afrodescendant Nation’s DMV chapter, Black Mens Movement, and Black Lawyers for Justice.
