Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was observed this year with many people living in poverty, and the federal minimum wage has not increased since 2009, while Black individuals make up 20.1% of the population in poverty and workers still earn $7.25 per hour in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wyoming.
